Q: What is TeleDesktop?
A: TeleDesktop is a software package that allows you to control a computer by another computer from anywhere. You can see and operate on the desktop of the host computer just like you sit in front of that computer.

Q: What is TeleDesktop fee structure?
A: If you want to use SBC EZ connection and use the guest account, you do not need to pay anything. If you want to use direct connection, you should purchase a one-time license key that will be valid for lifetime version upgrades. If you want to subscribe SBC service, you do not need to buy a license key.

Q: What are the strengths of TeleDesktop?
A: TeleDesktop comes with built-in HTTP support, provides "direct connect" and "server based connect". Those features will allow you to across firewalls and proxy servers and connect any two computers that can browse the Internet. It works transparently with dynamic IP address and provides advanced features such as remote printing, file transfer, clipboard transfer, and remote rebooting. The newly added SBC EZ feature not only makes connection extremely easy but also makes the software free! All data transmitted between the two computers are encrypted.

Q: What is the host computer and what is the client computer?
A: When you want to use TeleDesktop, you want to operate a remote computer through a local computer. The local computer you can touch is called the client computer. The remote computer that could be far away is called the host computer.

Q: What is "direct connect" and what is "server based connect (SBC)"?
A: TeleDesktop supports both direct connection and server based connection. Using direct connection, the client computer makes outgoing connection and host computer accepts incoming connection. This is a relatively simple way to make connection when the client and host computers are within a LAN/WAN or within a home network. However, if the host computer is behind a corporation firewall/proxy server, you may not be able to access from home because the firewall/proxy server will normally block incoming connection. Using direct connection, you will also need to know either the IP address or the host name.

Server Based Connect is used basically for three purposes - make connect easy (using SBC EZ), pass firewall/proxy server, and work transparently with IP addresses. To use server based connection, you should first start TeleDesktop host program and makes it ready for SBC connection. When the host is ready for SBC connection, it is connected to a SBC server. If you are using the guest account, you must note down the guest ID that you will receive from the SBC server. Then goto your client computer, start TeleDesktop client program and open "Server Based Connect" dialog and input SBC account userID and password or the guest ID received.

Q: What are the advantages of subscribed SBC users over guest SBC users?
A: There will be several advantages for the subscribed SBC users over guest users:
  • Subscribed user will get static SBC user ID and password
  • Subscribed SBC connection will not be cut off due to bandwidth limitation
  • Subscribed SBC connection can be faster
  • Subscribed SBC connection will be free of advertisements
  • Subscribed SBC connection can be auto-ready when host starts, that will be important for connecting back after remote rebooting
Q: What are the minimum requirements of systems?
A: For both client and host computers, it requires operating system of Windows 98 or above (including Window 98 and Me) or Windows NT or above (including Windows NT, 2000, XP and 2003). There must be a TCP/IP connection between client and host computers. The Internet connection will work. Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or above should be installed on both computers.

Q: Can Version 5 client program work with prevouis version host program or vice versa?
A: They should work normally OK. However, the new features in version 5 will not be available.
